Apple is expected to organize an event in October 2018 for the iPad and Mac. What can we expect during this event? Read our predictions .

iPad event 2018: our expectations

Whether Apple will organize an iPad event in October is not 100% sure yet. But the chances are big, as there is quite a bit in the pipeline: new iPad Pros, new MacBooks and perhaps a 20-year jubilee edition of the iMac. And what about the AirPower? As far as the date of the iPad event 2018 is concerned, we also have a suggestion.

When is the iPad event?

The iPad event has not yet officially been announced. We expect Apple to organize an event sometime in October, where, among other things, a new iPad Pro and new Macs will be announced. In recent years Apple has often organized a separate iPad and Mac event in October and we think that this will happen again after a year of absence. 

If we have to gamble, we arrive on Tuesday the 16th or Tuesday the 23rd. Another option is a week later, around 30 October. In the coming weeks we expect the invitations, after which we know the final date of the iPad event .

Expectations in brief

These are our expectations for the event in short:

• New iPad Pro : Redesigned iPad Pro in two formats, namely 11- and 12.9-inch. Without home button and with Face ID.
• New MacBook Air : Successor of the 13-inch MacBook. Replaces the 12-inch MacBookand gets Touch ID, but without Touch Bar.
• Mac mini : Renewed model of the Mac mini that got the latest update in October 2014. Focus is mainly on professionals.
• New iMac : The iMac exists for 20 years and that has to be celebrated. Possibly better spes and in spacegrijs.
• AirPower : Is Apple's wireless charging mat finally available?
• AirPods 2 : New AirPods including Hé Siri and wireless charging.

iPad Pro: almost certainly
Apple has given the normal iPad an update this spring, now it's time for the iPad Pro . All rumors point to a complete redesign, with a virtually borderless housing, Face ID instead of Touch ID , no headphone connection and a new Smart Connector. 

Also, the 10.5-inch version could get a slightly larger 11-inch screen, without the housing getting bigger. There are rumors that the iPad Pro will get USB-C and thus switch from Lightning.

MacBook Air: almost certain

We hear sounds that Apple is working on a cheap MacBook , possibly a 13-inch MacBook Air . That will probably be the first MacBook Air with Retina screen, for the price of the current Air! 

If you're in the market for a new MacBook, we recommend to wait a bit. It's also possible that this 13-inch MacBook is actually an update of the current 12-inch MacBook , but with narrower screen edges and a larger screen. . 

This new MacBook will most likely receive a Touch IDsensor, so you can unlock it more easily. You do not need an expensive Touch Bar for that, because you do not find it on this model. This MacBook is especially attractive for students, because of the slightly lower price.

Mac mini for pros: big chance

Apple has been saying for a while that the Mac mini is still important, but we have not seen any evidence of it yet. The last minor update appeared in 2014. It was a new Mac mini, especially intended for professionals who want to use the mini as a server for example. In terms of intent, nothing would change, because for a new Mac mini you still need an external screen.

iMac: 50/50 chance

This year the iMac exists twenty years, so that is a great time for a major update. With the MacBook Pros, Apple made the leap to six cores processors this year, and Apple might even go to eight cores at the iMac . We therefore have high expectations. Moreover, it is already more than a year since the iMac has been updated with the current iPad Pros.

An update for Apple's all-in-one computer can also be a great opportunity to release it for the first time in spacegrijs. Since last year the iMac Pro is available in the space price. That color turned out to be exclusive for a long time, but since earlier this year you can also buy the black mouse, trackpad and keyboard separately. That fits perfectly with a spacegrijs iMac.

AirPower: 50/50 chance

It is possible that Apple has put the AirPower in the fridge and hopes that nobody will ask for it. In this way almost all information about the loading mat of the website was cleaned. But the fact that the AirPower was mentioned in the booklets of the iPhone XS also gives the impression that it is almost ready for production. We hope that all problems are overcome and that Apple finally announces an introduction date. It has been more than a year since the AirPower was announced, together with a wireless charging box for the AirPods .

We are not yet sure if the AirPower has been canceled or if Apple still has plans. Sources reported that Apple might use the name AirPower for another product. If Apple still has plans to release it this year, the upcoming event is a great opportunity to have something heard. However, there is still a chance that somewhere in December he will suddenly be in stores, just as Apple did with the AirPods two years ago.

AirPods 2: 50/50 chance

If Apple announces an iPad without a headphone jack, that's the ideal time to make the new AirPods 2 public. This was impossible with the introduction of the iPhones , because everyone would have wondered where the AirPower would stay. In a separate article we discuss the expected AirPods 2 functions.

We do not expect this

There are also some possible announcements that are not very credible:

• HomePod 2.0 : We will probably have to wait for a spring event in the spring of 2019, focusing on video and music.
• Apple video service : Apple 's long-awaited video service is likely to be announced in the spring of 2019.
• Luxury headphones : Apple would like to release a headphone variant of the AirPods of high quality and with large ear cups as we are used to at the Beats. That would also fit well with a spring event around video and music.

And the iPhone SE 2 then? It will probably never happen. Apple seems to have found the ideal cheaper alternative to the thousands of euro top models with the iPhone XR .
