Message box app: My Government mail on your iPhone and iPad

Message box app for mail from My Government.
The national government has released a new app that allows you to read messages from the government. This app for Mijn Overheid connects once to your DigiD, so you can easily view your post.

The government and affiliated organizations send mail digitally more and more via Mijn Overheid. To read this post, you must log in with your DigiD data via the My Government page. On your iPhone and iPad that may be a little awkward and that is why the Government has now released the Messagebox app. This allows you to easily view your messages from My Government on your iPhone or iPad .

Message box app: My Government mail on iPhone and iPad

The new Message Box app contains only the post-section of My Government and therefore offers no insight into other settings or personal data. Once you have downloaded the app, set a five-digit PIN code and link the app to your DigiD account once.

If you receive a new message from My Government, the Message Box app will send you a notification to inform you about the mail. Previously you only received an email, after which you had to go to the website of Mijn Overheid to view the mail. This is much easier with the new Messagebox app.

Currently the app only contains an inbox of all your mail. You can view your post and open attachments, save and forward them to other apps via the submenu. It is currently not possible to delete messages. The Q & A section of the app states that this may become available later. For the time being, you still have to go to the Mijn Overheid website to delete messages. Soon the app will also allow you to select new organizations that you prefer to receive mail digitally.

No Touch ID or Face ID

The only security of the app is the five-digit pin code. It is not possible to log in with Touch ID or Face ID , which is now the standard for such apps. The government also has a DigiD app, with which you can log in to all authorities that are connected to DigiD. You only have to scan the QR code and enter the pin code. Also with this app it is not possible to log in with Face ID or Touch ID.
