Apple investigates iPhone XS connection problem with internet

Apple has started an investigation into the moderate to poor mobile internet and Wi-Fi connections of some iPhone XS and XS Max models. Many people in the Netherlands also say that they suffer from this.

iPhone XS connection problem

When we recently published an article about the bad internet connection between the iPhone XS and XS Max , we immediately got a lot of reactions from readers who recognized themselves. On Twitter the American Devin Meredith says that he went to Apple with his iPhone XS Max to ask for a solution. Apple then asked him to cooperate in investigating this problem.
This is done by installing an app that registers the mobile Internet strength and then sharing these statistics with Apple. In addition to the story with Meredith, several Apple forums are full of messages from users who have been asked to participate in a similar investigation.
Apple investigates whether the problem is a software or hardware problem. If it is an error in iOS, it can simply be solved with an update. If that is not the case, Apple should call back and replace the devices.
Since the arrival of the iPhone XS and XS Max on September 17, users have complained about a bad internet connection. The new iPhones show a poorer signal than older iPhones connected to the same network. This applies to both mobile internet and wifi.

Does iOS 12.1 contain the solution?

In the beta of iOS 12.1 you can see that Apple has updated the firmware of the modem to a newer version. Whether this contains the solution is still unclear, although some beta testers say that their Internet connection has improved since the installation of the test version. It is expected that iOS 12.1 will appear for everyone over the coming weeks.
We have contacted Apple Netherlands for more information about this research. As soon as we know more, we update this article.
