DxOMark: 'iPhone XS Max camera is excellent, but not the best'

From an extensive test of DxOMark , the iPhone XS Max is very good when it comes to photography. The biggest iPhone ever leaves the Galaxy Note 9 behind, but does not have the best smartphone camera of the moment.

iPhone XS Max camera: almost the best smartphone camera

Samsung and Apple are arch rivals that new devices are always compared to each other. This time DxOMark throws some oil on the fire. The photography website has done research on how good the camera of the largest iPhone ever is, and comes out with positive news.
The tester can hardly be more positive. The iPhone XS Max has 'one of the best cameras we have ever tested'. The photo quality has improved considerably compared to the iPhone X.
The research particularly praises the color range of the photos in bright light, the attention to detail and the excellent autofocus. Especially photos where the light comes from the front come out of the bus. In addition, the bokeh function works fine and fast, with the camera focusing on the subject and the environment becoming blurred.

iPhone XS Max beats Galaxy Note 9

The people at DxOMark are less positive about the iPhone XS Max camera when it is dark. This keeps the zoom function behind compared to other high-end telephones, so that pixels look less sharp.
Nevertheless, the camera performance of the new iPhone is better than that of the Galaxy Note 9 , Samsung's flagship. The XS Max scores 105 points in the DxOMark rankings, and only needs to tolerate the Huawei P20 Pro . This has 109 points and is the best smartphone camera of the moment. The Note 9 is in third place with 103 points.
Do not sail blindly on this type of scores. DxOMark tests cameras very extensively under specific circumstances, so the results are not always realistic. Moreover, the camera tester has regularly been discredited in the past because they work with smartphone manufacturers. This could affect the scores.
