Google Home (Mini) from now on in the Netherlands

The Google Home and Google Home Mini speakers Digital Technology with the Dutch Google Assistant can be ordered online from today. The new speakers will be on the store on 24 October. That is what Google announces itself after an internal memo had been leaked earli.

Google Home in the Netherlands

Google Home is coming to the Netherlands. The voice-controlled speakers are a lot cheaper than Apple's HomePod , because you partly pay with your personal data. The Google Home and Home Mini can be ordered from today: 149 euros for a Google Home and 59 euros for a Home Mini. The speakers are later in the stores at Bol.com , Coolblue , MediaMarkt the online Google Store and even at Albert Heijn.



Google Home in the Netherlands

Have you already brought a Google Home (Mini) from Germany, England or the USA, then there is good news: you can also use it in Dutch from 24 October. From that moment on, the Dutch Google Assistant is supported on the Home speakers. 

Until now you had to communicate with your speakers in English or German. Until now, Google Assistant could only be used via the app and not on external speakers. Nothing has been published yet about other products such as the Sonos speakers and other external brands.

What can you do with Google Home?

You can also put Google Home into your home as an iPhone user . The voice-controlled speaker can answer questions or control smart devices at home. You can, for example, request that all Philips Hue lamps be switched on in the living room. We have tested this and it also works with the IKEA Tradfri Lamps that are connected to the system. 

You can also order a particular song on Spotify or play a Netflix or YouTube video on TV, if you have a Google Chromecast. By saying 'Hey Google' or 'Okay Google' you activate the speaker. Also read our Google Home Mini review with our experiences.

You already had those options via the Google Assistant app for iOS , but by putting the speaker in your living room you can give commands without having to open the app. You can read more about this in our Google Home article for iOS users .

Which Google Home to choose?

If you still doubt between the large and the small Home Mini, it is mainly about the format and the sound quality. The functions are virtually the same. If you want to listen to music, the Google Home is a better idea. As a speaker for voice commands for your smart home , the Home Mini is good enough. 

That is also a lot cheaper. The Mini is available in black, white and coral pink and soon also in mint green. You can find black and white in all stores, the special colors only at Google's own webshop.

Google is not going to sell the larger Google Home Max in the Netherlands for the time being. This would cost around 400 euros and is therefore more expensive than Apple's HomePod.



Google's announcement comes at a somewhat awkward moment: just after it became known that data of hundreds of thousands of users were leaked via Google+. 

That can happen, but the bad thing is that Google has been aware for a long time, but the leak stopped . As a result, we will hear a lot from this new 'Cambridge Analytica' scandal in the coming months. Are you looking for a privacy-friendly alternative, then you better choose the HomePod .
