How can I disable my online status in Instagram?
Disabling is quite simple:
- Open Instagram and tap your profile photo or the account key at the bottom right.
- At the top right, touch the three dashes and choose Settings at the top, or tap the gear next to the Edit profile option .
- Scroll to the Privacy and Security heading and tap Activity status .
- Then switch off the switch.
Once you set the activity status off, you can not see the status of others. Instagram does this to entice you to turn on the functionality.
People who do not follow you can not see your status unless you give them permission to send you a message. That means that strangers can not just check when you were last active on Instagram, even if you have your activity status on.
Multiple accounts
Do you have multiple accounts? Then you will have to switch off the function manually in each account. For your information: you are only active on an account when you switch to that account. If you open Instagram, you will not be shown as active on all your accounts.
What does online status mean in Instagram?
The online status, also called Activity status, shows when you were last online. According to Instagram, you see this in different places in the app, but it is particularly visible in the Direct section for sending private messages. With green dots you can see that someone is available and the app also indicates when someone was last online. If you do not want this, you switch off the online status via the aforementioned steps.
